Contract Sanitation Workers Go on Strike Over Pending Salaries

On Monday, contractual sanitation workers staged a protest outside the Municipal Corporation office, demanding their pending salaries of the past three months. They sat on a dharna outside the Commissioner’s office and raised slogans. Mayor Rajiv Jain met with the protesting workers and assured them of an early resolution. However, with no assurance from the Municipal Commissioner’s side, the workers announced they would go on strike starting Tuesday, halting all sanitation services.

The protest was organized under the banners of Thekha Safai Karmchari Ekta Manch, Mool Nivasi Karmchari Kalyan Mahasangh, and Sahyog Bali Sena Union. Earlier, on April 25, the workers had protested outside the agency office in Sector-15.

Union leader Mukesh Tank alleged that both the municipal administration and the contractor are deliberately withholding salaries and misleading them with repeated false promises. He warned that if salaries are not credited immediately, sanitation work across the municipal area would be completely shut down from Tuesday. This could lead to piles of garbage across the city and public inconvenience, for which the administration would be solely responsible.

Prominent workers present at the protest included Anil, Mukesh Karma, Ravindra, Yudhishthir, Vijay Tomar, Maya, Usha, Anju, Manju, Pramila, Vijay, Amit Bohat, Praveen, Sunil, Rahul, Rakesh, and others.
