Heatwave Grips North India: IMD Issues Alert for 7 States Amid Soaring Temperatures

The weather across several states in India has taken a sharp turn, with rising temperatures being observed. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heatwave alert for seven states: Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh. These areas may see temperatures rise by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius above normal.

In Rajasthan, a yellow alert has been issued for districts including Jaipur, Jodhpur, Barmer, Bikaner, and Nagaur. Temperatures in these areas could reach up to 45-46°C, with heatwave conditions likely to persist for the next 4–5 days.

In Delhi, the weather will remain clear today, with a high of 38°C and winds blowing at 20–30 km/h.

In Uttar Pradesh, Lucknow will have clear skies with a maximum temperature of 35°C, while Agra will see bright sunshine with temperatures rising to 38°C, and potentially reaching 43°C in the next two days.

Gujarat is already experiencing intense heat, with Kandla reporting temperatures over 43°C, and cities like Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar also struggling with the extreme heat.

Punjab too is on yellow alert for heatwave conditions between April 15 to 17, with temperatures expected to be 5-6°C above normal in several parts of the state.
