Accused in Sonepat Father-Son Murder Killed in Police Encounter

Shubham, a resident of Chhappar in Karnal and accused in the murder of a father and son in Sonipat, was shot dead in a police encounter. The incident occurred around 12 pm on Sunday near the KMP Expressway on the route from Gopalpur to IMT, Kharkhoda. During the encounter, Shubham’s accomplice, Manish, managed to escape.

Police Commissioner Mamta Singh stated that on October 24, Shubham had allegedly shot dead Mohit from Gopalpur village and his father Dharamveer. Both victims were facing trial for the murder of a fellow villager and were killed while on their way to court for a hearing.

On Sunday, police received information that the murder suspects were near the KMP Expressway close to the IMT road in Gopalpur. Following this, teams led by Ajay Dhanakhar, in charge of the Special Anti-Gangster Unit, and Bir Singh, CIA-1 in charge, conducted a search operation. The accused were spotted approaching on a motorcycle. When the police attempted to stop them, the suspects opened fire.

Bullets fired by the suspects struck the bulletproof jackets of both team in-charges. In retaliatory fire, Shubham was injured, while Manish fled the scene. Shubham was rushed to the government hospital in Kharkhoda and later referred to the Women’s Medical College, Khanpur Kalan, where doctors declared him dead.

Upon receiving information about the encounter, DCP Narendra Kadian, ATS Haryana in-charge ACP Ajit Singh, and ACP Rajdeep reached the location. The field unit team collected evidence from the spot.
Police Commissioner Mamta Singh said that inputs had indicated the presence of two suspects involved in the brutal double murder. When the police attempted to apprehend them, the suspects opened fire, leading to an exchange in which one accused was killed. The second suspect has been identified and will be arrested soon.
