सोनीपत को फिर ‘स्वर्णप्रस्थ’ नाम देने की उठी मांग

सोनीपत शहर की सामाजिक और धार्मिक संस्थाओं ने जिले का नाम बदलकर उसके प्राचीन नाम स्वर्णप्रस्थ रखने की मांग उठाई है। इस मुद्दे को लेकर वीरवार को शहर में विभिन्न संगठनों के प्रतिनिधियों की एक बैठक आयोजित की गई।

बैठक में सेवानिवृत्त कर्नल अमिक गर्ग ने कहा कि सोनीपत राष्ट्रीय राजधानी क्षेत्र (एनसीआर) का एक ऐतिहासिक नगर है, जिसकी पहचान महाभारत काल से जुड़ी हुई है। प्राचीन ग्रंथों और लोक परंपराओं में इस नगर का उल्लेख स्वर्णप्रस्थ के नाम से मिलता है।

सोनीपत समाज पंचायत के संयोजक संजय सिंगला और सरदार मोहन सिंह मनोचा ने बताया कि देश के कई शहरों को उनके ऐतिहासिक और सांस्कृतिक गौरव को ध्यान में रखते हुए पुराने नाम वापस दिए जा रहे हैं। इसी कड़ी में सोनीपत का नाम भी उसके प्राचीन स्वरूप में पुनः स्थापित किया जाना चाहिए।

बैठक में दृष्टि सेवा समिति से देवेंद्र जैन, मेडिकल एसोसिएशन से सतीश विज, शिक्षाविद डॉ. सुभाष सिसोदिया, सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता नरेंद्र भूटानी, बी.आर. जावा, सब इंस्पेक्टर जगत सिंह, ‘तेरा तुझको समर्पित’ संस्था से ममता और पंजाबी समाज के प्रतिनिधि मोहन टुटेजा सहित कई गणमान्य लोग उपस्थित रहे।

Various social and religious organizations in Sonipat have demanded that the city’s name be changed back to its ancient name, Swarnprastha. A meeting was held on Thursday in the city where representatives of different organizations discussed the issue.

Retired Colonel Amik Garg stated that Sonipat is an ancient city within the National Capital Region (NCR) and has deep historical roots dating back to the Mahabharata era. Ancient scriptures and local traditions refer to Sonipat as Swarnprastha.

Sanjay Singla, convener of the Sonipat Samaj Panchayat, along with Sardar Mohan Singh Manocha, said that many cities across India are being restored to their original historical names as a matter of cultural pride. They emphasized that Sonipat also deserves to reclaim its ancient identity.

The meeting was attended by Devendra Jain from Drishti Seva Samiti, Satish Vij from the Medical Association, educationist Dr. Subhash Sisodia, social activist Narendra Bhootani, B.R. Jawa, Sub-Inspector Jagat Singh, Mamta from ‘Tera Tujhko Samarpit’, and Mohan Tuteja representing the Punjabi community, among others.
