Every Farmer to Get a Unique Digital ID, Agri Stack Pilot Launched from Sonipat

In a major step toward digitizing the agricultural sector, the central government has launched the Agri Stack project under the Digital Agriculture Mission. The pilot phase of this initiative has begun in Sonipat district, where every farmer will be issued a unique digital farmer ID.

During the first phase, farmers’ details will be registered and uploaded on a dedicated portal. This digital framework will ensure direct, transparent, and timely access to government schemes for farmers, while also improving accountability and efficiency among agriculture officials.

Agri Stack is a digital public infrastructure being developed with the cooperation of state governments. The system will be open-source, interoperable, and based on open APIs, enabling secure and consent-based sharing of agricultural data. It will provide farmers with a verified and dynamic digital identity.

???? Three Key Registries Under Agri Stack

1. Farmer Registry – Unique digital identity for each farmer

2. Village Digital Mapping – Accurate land and location details

3. Crop Sowing Registry – Real-time digital records of crops sown

This system will make data related to crop patterns, cultivated area, and production instantly available, enabling better implementation of agricultural schemes. The integrated digital ecosystem will also help farmers access affordable credit, precise advisory services, and market-related information.

???? Two Villages Selected from Each Tehsil

Under the pilot project, two villages each will be selected from Sonipat, Gohana, Kharkhoda, Rai, and Ganaur tehsils. The Revenue Department will serve as the main implementing agency, while the Agriculture Director will act as the nodal officer. Special registration camps will be organized at the tehsil level, and master trainers will be trained for implementation. Farmer registry data will be shared within 3 to 10 days.

A joint meeting of the Agriculture and Revenue Departments was held at the Mini Secretariat to finalize the implementation strategy. Officials agreed to begin work in the selected villages soon.

According to Dr. Pawan Sharma, Deputy Director of Agriculture, Sonipat, the Digital Agriculture Mission will provide farmers with direct benefits from government schemes and strengthen transparency in the agricultural system.
