Factory Emitting Toxic Gas Sealed After Night-Time Inspection in Sonipat

A team from the Pollution Control Department conducted a late-night raid on the SD Enterprises factory near Mimar Pur village on Friday. The factory was sealed after officials found its air-control system malfunctioning. Villagers had complained around midnight that the unit was emitting poisonous gases.

Residents reported that the toxic fumes were affecting people within a radius of four to five kilometers, causing breathing problems. The department team reached the site around 1 a.m., and upon finding several violations, halted production and sealed the factory.

Earlier on Friday, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) and Sonipat administration had carried out actions throughout the day to enforce GRAP-3 norms. However, when SD Enterprises continued operations late at night and released toxic emissions in the surrounding area, villagers lodged a complaint with the Pollution Control Board.

Following the complaint, SDO Kushagra and his team inspected the factory around 1 a.m. During the inspection, the air-pollution control system was found to be non-functional. This system is essential to regulate harmful gases, but due to its failure, dangerous fumes were being released openly.

The factory manufactures rubber products. The large machine used for melting tires and rubber was not installed as per safety standards, causing direct emission of hazardous gases into the atmosphere. Villagers said the smell and pollution at night led to eye irritation, headaches, and difficulty in breathing.

SDO Kushagra stated that the complaints were serious, so the team reached the spot immediately and shut down the factory to prevent further health risks to the residents.
