Kanungo Suspended for Fast-Tracking Land Partition in Just 45 Days; Another Charged for Fake Mutation

A revenue official (Kanungo) in Sonipat has been suspended for allegedly facilitating land partition within an unusually short span of 45 days. The accused official prepared the partition map for a woman’s land despite having 15 other pending maps. Based on this map, the court passed a partition order. Following an appeal by the opposing party, the Divisional Commissioner expressed concern over the rapid processing and ordered an investigation.

The suspended officer, Suresh Kumar, prepared and submitted the map on the same day the application was made by Babita, a resident of village Pahladpur, whose husband Ramkuwar had passed away. She had requested partition of joint family land. The court of the Tehsildar approved the partition in just 45 days.

However, Ramphal, son of Bhaleram, filed an appeal with the Divisional Commissioner, questioning the intention of the Kanungo and the abnormal speed of the entire process. He claimed the Kanungo deliberately prioritized this map while neglecting 15 other pending cases.

During the hearing on July 3, the Divisional Commissioner expressed shock and ordered a full inquiry into the matter. Sonipat SDM Subhash Chandra was assigned to investigate and submit a report by August 6. Meanwhile, the DC suspended Suresh Kumar on July 23, and the case has been remanded back to the Tehsildar for rehearing.

In a separate case, Kanungo Yashpal from Sonipat Tehsil has been charge-sheeted for allegedly executing a fake mutation related to land in Murthal village. He is accused of transferring ownership of land to someone who wasn’t the rightful owner. Yashpal has been given time this week to respond to the charges.
