Key Development Issues of Sonipat and Ganaur Raised in Assembly, Demand for Bypass and Stadium Upgrades

On the final day of the Haryana Assembly’s winter session on Monday, several important development-related issues concerning Sonipat district were raised prominently in the House. MLAs from Ganaur and Sonipat highlighted problems related to traffic congestion, waterlogging, and sports infrastructure, urging the government to take concrete and timely action.

Ganaur MLA Devender Kadyan drew attention to the city’s persistent traffic jams and waterlogging, stressing that the construction of the Ganaur bypass is the lifeline of the town and should be treated as a top priority. He emphasized that a permanent solution to traffic congestion is urgently needed.

He suggested a practical alternative to avoid lengthy land acquisition procedures by proposing that land along the Rajpura Minor canal be transferred from the Irrigation Department to the Public Works Department for the construction of a link road. This, he said, could reduce nearly 40 percent of the city’s traffic burden while saving both time and public funds.

Responding to this, Public Works Minister Ranbir Gangwa assured the House that the government is serious about the bypass project. He stated that land acquisition would be initiated through the e-Bhoomi portal and that the feasibility of the canal-side route suggested by the MLA would be examined, followed by the preparation of a DPR at the earliest.

Raising the long-standing issue of waterlogging in Ganaur, Kadyan was informed by the minister that a stormwater drainage project worth ?14 crore has already been planned. The project includes laying a 2,200-meter-long RCC pipeline. For the pumping station, 1,200 square feet of land is required, for which a letter has been sent to the Market Board. The tender process will begin once the land is made available.

Additionally, the MLA demanded strict action against hoarding of urea and DAP fertilizers, measures to prevent erosion in the Yamuna belt, early completion of the Agwanpur railway overbridge, and upgradation of Ganaur Municipal Committee to a Municipal Council.

Meanwhile, Sonipat MLA Nikhil Madan raised concerns during Zero Hour regarding the strengthening of the city’s sports infrastructure. He demanded renovation of Subhash Stadium and Sector-4 Stadium, stating that providing modern facilities to athletes is the need of the hour.

He called for the construction of a modern indoor stadium at Subhash Stadium for wrestling, kabaddi, basketball, and handball, along with a state-of-the-art gym, toilets, and dressing rooms. At Sector-4 Stadium, he sought replacement of the hockey astroturf, renovation of the athletics track, repair of damaged pitches and goalposts, improved warm-up areas, better spectator seating, and stronger fencing.

He also emphasized the need for upgrading the tubewell and installing modern sprinkler systems for watering the astroturf, separate toilets and dressing rooms for women athletes, and access to clean drinking water.

MLA Nikhil Madan noted that Sonipat’s athletes have brought laurels to the state and the nation at national and international levels. He urged the government to prioritize and fulfill all legitimate demands related to sports facilities. The government assured positive action on all the issues raised.
