Mayor Rajiv Jain Urges Shopkeepers to Stop Selling Single-Use Plastic

A meeting was held at the Municipal Corporation office on Friday with shopkeepers who sell single-use plastic items, as part of the city’s plastic-free initiative. Mayor Rajiv Jain and Municipal Commissioner Harshit Kumar appealed to vendors not to sell single-use plastic products, especially plastic carry bags.

Mayor Jain emphasized that a nationwide campaign is underway to make India plastic-free. Rather than imposing strict actions, the Municipal Corporation is working in cooperation with shopkeepers to make the campaign successful. He encouraged vendors to start offering jute bags as an alternative to plastic ones.

Commissioner Harshit Kumar highlighted the environmental damage caused by plastic bags and stressed the need to switch to sustainable alternatives. Chief Sanitation Inspector Satender Dahiya and several shopkeepers including Rakesh, Mamchand, Parth, Arihant, Omprakash, Nikhil, Yogesh, Radheshyam, Vikram, and Naresh were also present during the meeting.
