Murthal Food Trips Turn Fatal: Over 30 Youths Killed in Road Accidents in a Year

The popular trend of late-night food trips and parties in Murthal has turned deadly for NCR’s youth. Over the past year, more than 30 young people have lost their lives in road accidents while travelling to or from Murthal. Most of these crashes were caused by overspeeding, drunk driving, violation of traffic rules, riding without helmets, and driving in the wrong lane.

A majority of the accidents occurred at night on National Highway-44, where heavy traffic combined with high speed proved fatal. Despite repeated awareness drives and challans by the police, reckless behavior among youngsters continues. Several families have lost their only sons, leaving parents with lifelong grief.

One such tragic incident occurred on Monday at the Nangal Khurd flyover, where three friends riding a scooter from Delhi after a party collided with a truck and died on the spot. Two of them were the sole sons of their families.

Earlier, on July 7, 2025, four youths from Binoli village in Baghpat went to Murthal to celebrate a birthday. While returning, their speeding Scorpio hit the divider at the Sector-7 flyover, crossed into the opposite lane, and collided with an oncoming trailer. The vehicle caught fire, killing all four occupants.

In another incident in October 2025, three friends from Nangloi, Delhi, died after their Bullet motorcycle hit a divider while returning from Murthal. None of them were wearing helmets. Similar fatal accidents have also been reported near Kundli and Livaspur flyover areas.

According to Sonipat Traffic Police, strict action is taken year-round against drunk driving, overspeeding, wrong-lane driving, and riding without helmets or seat belts on NH-44. However, despite enforcement and awareness efforts, two to three youths continue to lose their lives every month during trips to Murthal.
