शहर में पहली बार मानसून के दौरान ही गड्ढे भरने का कार्य शुरू हुआ है। पहले बारिश के बाद सड़कों और गड्ढों में फर्क कर पाना मुश्किल हो जाता था, जिससे दोपहिया वाहन चालकों को चोटिल होना पड़ता था।

नगर निगम ने इस काम को दो जोनों में बांटते हुए 25-25 लाख रुपये के टेंडर जारी किए हैं। दो अलग-अलग एजेंसियां इस कार्य को अंजाम दे रही हैं।
अब तक जिन इलाकों की सड़कों के गड्ढे भरे जा चुके हैं, उनमें सेक्टर 15 की डीएवी रोड, ओल्ड डीसी रोड, सूरी पेट्रोल पंप वाली गली, सेक्टर 23 की मुख्य सड़क, ककरोई रोड, गोहाना रोड, स्वामी विवेकानंद चौक से सेक्टर 14-15, हिंदू स्कूल रोड, खिजर मकबरा जटवाड़ा, शनि मंदिर के पास, एमपी की कोठी के निकट, अंबेडकर पार्क के सामने और गांधी चौक से सेक्टर 14 तक की सड़कें शामिल हैं।

हालांकि कुछ लोग सवाल उठा रहे हैं कि बारिश के दौरान गड्ढे भरना व्यर्थ है, क्योंकि सामग्री बह सकती है। लेकिन नगर निगम का दावा है कि इस बार ऐसा मटेरियल इस्तेमाल किया जा रहा है जो बारिश के पानी से खराब नहीं होता।

राज्य सरकार ने भी 15 जून से पहले सभी गड्ढे भरने का लक्ष्य तय किया था, लेकिन टेंडर प्रक्रिया में देरी के कारण कार्य अब शुरू हुआ है।
शहर की आधे से अधिक सड़कों की जिम्मेदारी PWD और NHAI के पास है, जो मरम्मत पर ज्यादा ध्यान नहीं देते। ऐसे में नगर निगम ने निर्णय लिया है कि जुलाई महीने में बड़े गड्ढे भर दिए जाएंगे और जिन सड़कों का पुनर्निर्माण होना है, वो बरसात के बाद शुरू होगा।

In a major step towards improving road safety, the Municipal Corporation of Sonepat has initiated a city-wide pothole-filling drive during the monsoon for the first time.
Earlier, waterlogged roads made it hard to distinguish between streets and potholes, leading to frequent accidents involving two-wheelers.

The Municipal Corporation has divided the city into two zones and issued tenders worth ?25 lakh each. Two different agencies have started work to fill the potholes.
So far, potholes have been repaired in areas like DAV Road (Sector 15), Old DC Road, the lane near Suri Petrol Pump, the main road in Sector 23, Kakroi Road, Gohana Road, the road from Swami Vivekananda Chowk to Sector 14-15, Hindu School Road, Khijjar Maqbara Jatwara, near Shani Mandir, near MP’s residence, in front of Ambedkar Park, and from Gandhi Chowk to Sector 14.

While some residents question the logic of filling potholes during rains, fearing the material may wash away, officials assure that high-quality material is being used that withstands heavy rains.

Though the state government had set a target to fill all potholes by June 15, delays in the tender process caused a late start.
Moreover, over half of the city’s roads fall under the jurisdiction of PWD and NHAI, which have not been responsive in doing patchwork repairs. Therefore, the Municipal Corporation plans to fill major potholes by July and start road reconstruction post-monsoon.
