“Traders Protest Proposed Wall Construction in Gohana Road Market”

Traders in the Gohana Road market opposed the police’s move to start building a wall from the Gohana Road ROB toward Kakroi Chowk. As soon as construction materials arrived on-site, shopkeepers protested, saying they would not tolerate the creation of a wall in the middle of the market. They also questioned the actions taken by the traffic police. In response, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) assured them of a meeting on Friday.

Once traders learned that a wall was being planned in the center of the market, they immediately informed District Traders’ Association president Sanjay Singla, who reached the spot. The traders argued that initiating permanent construction without any prior intimation or discussion was unacceptable and would negatively impact both businesses and the general public.

District president Sanjay Singla spoke to Traffic Station In-charge Deshraj and requested that the construction be halted. SHO Deshraj then stopped the work temporarily. Considering the seriousness of the matter, he informed DCP Narendra Kadian and facilitated a phone conversation between him and Singla. During the discussion, Singla appealed that no wall be constructed in the market and explained the concerns of the traders. The DCP promised to visit the location on Friday and hold a meeting with the business community.

Traders Warn of Protest

Singla said that building a wall in the middle of the market would cause significant inconvenience to both traders and pedestrians. He added that while the administration speaks of removing encroachments, it is planning to create a permanent obstruction itself. The traders’ association strongly opposes this move and warned that if authorities proceed with construction without taking traders’ consent and keeping public interest in mind, they would be compelled to launch an agitation.
