First Successful Complex Spine Surgery at Civil Hospital Sonipat

For the first time, a complex spine surgery was successfully performed at the District Civil Hospital. Ramkumar, a 52-year-old resident of Bandepur, suffered a severe injury on August 18 after falling from a height. He sustained an L-3 fracture in his spine, which left him unable to walk.

At a private hospital, his surgery was estimated to cost nearly ?6 lakh. Due to financial constraints, his family brought him to the Civil Hospital. Here, Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Vipin Dalal, along with his team, performed a Pedicle Screw Fixation Spine Surgery on August 22. The operation lasted for three and a half hours.

During the surgery, four titanium screws and two rods were fixed to release pressure on the nerves. Post-operation, Ramkumar was able to stand and walk again. This marks the first such complex spinal surgery at the Civil Hospital.

Dr. Vipin Dalal said the patient’s condition was extremely critical, almost leading to paralysis, but the surgery has opened new possibilities for advanced treatments at the hospital.
RMO Dr. Manjeet Rathi added that this achievement was the result of the orthopedic and OT team’s hard work.
