Haryana Jails Emerge as Models of Reform and Self-Reliance: Seven Jail Filling Stations Inaugurated

Haryana’s Minister for Prisons and Tourism, Dr. Arvind Sharma, stated that the state government is not only tightening its grip on crime but also transforming prisons into centers of reform and rehabilitation. Emphasis is being laid on skill development, innovation, and self-reliance of inmates so that they can successfully reintegrate into society after completing their sentences.

On Sunday, Dr. Sharma inaugurated jail filling stations set up in the prison premises of Sonipat, Karnal, Faridabad, Hisar, Ambala, Yamunanagar, and Nuh. The inauguration was conducted from the Sonipat District Jail in the presence of BJP State President Mohan Lal Badoli, Mayor Rajiv Jain, and Director General of Prisons Alok Kumar Rai.

The minister informed that the concept of jail filling stations was first introduced as a pilot project at Kurukshetra Jail in 2022. Following its success, the government decided to establish such stations in 11 jails across the state. As part of this initiative, seven filling stations have now been made operational, while similar facilities will be set up in Narnaul, Bhiwani, Sirsa, and Jhajjar jails by March.

Dr. Sharma emphasized that Haryana’s prisons are among the most secure and disciplined in the country. Advanced security systems including CCTV cameras, jammers, access control mechanisms, and continuous surveillance have significantly curbed illegal activities. Along with maintaining discipline, prisons are ensuring humane treatment and providing education focused on innovation and skill development.

He further mentioned that earlier this month, Chief Justice of India, Justice Suryakant, inaugurated ITI diploma and polytechnic courses at Gurugram Jail, a model now being followed by other states. The government aims to ensure that inmates secure respectable employment after their release.

Director General of Prisons Alok Kumar Rai stated that 50 gangsters have been lodged in different prisons to prevent the formation of criminal networks. Due to robust security arrangements, close monitoring of criminals is being maintained to prevent their involvement in further crimes.

Former Chief Parliamentary Secretary Anil Thakkar, former District President Jasveer Dodwa, Indian Oil Corporation Divisional Head Anil Kumar, Jail Advisor Jagjit Singh, Jail Superintendent Rajender Singh, and Deputy Superintendent Deepak Hooda were also present on the occasion.
