Haryana to Get New DGP in August: 11 IPS Officers in Race, Those Nearing Retirement Likely Out

The current Director General of Police (DGP) of Haryana, Shatrujeet Kapoor, is set to complete his two-year tenure in August. Though he still has around 16 months left before retirement, the state government has initiated discussions on preparing a panel for his replacement.

As per rules, a panel of eligible candidates must be submitted to the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) two months before the DGP’s tenure ends. This has triggered internal deliberations within the government.

The new panel will include the names of 11 IPS officers who have completed 30 years of service. Out of the eight DG-rank officers in the state, five are expected to retire this year and are thus likely to be excluded from consideration.

IPS officers from batches up to 1994 will be considered. Four eligible officers currently serving at the ADGP rank may be included, but they would need to be promoted to DG rank before they can be appointed as the new DGP.
