The deliberate attempt by the Punjab government to deprive Haryana of its rightful share of drinking water is not only a violation of constitutional norms but also a reflection of a calculated political malice.

It is astonishing that while the Aam Aadmi Party was in power in Delhi, the Punjab government had no issues in supplying water there. But now that the party no longer rules Delhi, the tone of the Punjab Chief Minister has suddenly changed. Has something as essential as water also become subject to political convenience?

Haryana has always upheld the spirit of cooperative federalism, but such actions by the Punjab government not only harm that spirit but also endanger the lives of common citizens. In April, Haryana received only 4,000 cusecs of water—just 60% of what it needs. This situation, during the peak of summer, is an open invitation to a water crisis.

The intentional delay in implementing the Bhakra Beas Management Board's (BBMB) technical committee decision on April 23 indicates that Punjab officials, under political pressure, are pushing the people of Delhi and Haryana toward a severe water and health crisis.

I want to ask the Punjab government:
Has politics become so supreme that the basic values of humanity and coexistence can now be trampled without remorse?
