सोनीपत में केमिकल युक्त पानी का मुद्दा एक बार फिर सुर्खियों में आ गया है, जिससे नगर निगम की लापरवाही सामने आई है। जिले के राठधाना रोड स्थित सीवरेज ट्रीटमेंट प्लांट (STP) से अब भी बिना ट्रीट किया हुआ जहरीला पानी ड्रेन-6 में डाला जा रहा है, जबकि इस पर मुख्यमंत्री नायब सिंह सैनी और NGT ने स्पष्ट रूप से रोक लगा रखी है।

सीएम सैनी ने 30 मार्च को सोनीपत दौरे में अफसरों को चेताया था कि यदि एक सप्ताह के भीतर ये स्थिति नहीं सुधरी, तो कड़ी कार्रवाई की जाएगी। लेकिन 20 दिन बीतने के बाद भी समस्या जस की तस बनी हुई है।

12 अप्रैल को एक बार फिर बिना ट्रीटमेंट किए केमिकल युक्त पानी को सीधे ड्रेन में छोड़े जाने का मामला सामने आया, जिससे स्पष्ट हो गया कि नगर निगम ने सीएम और एनजीटी दोनों के आदेशों की अनदेखी की है।

इस पर नगर निगम के कमिश्नर हर्षित कुमार ने सफाई दी कि इस मामले को SMD देख रहा है और जल्द ही नए STP के लिए टेंडर जारी किया जाएगा।

वहीं निगम के XEN विजय गर्ग ने बताया कि पहले शहर में 17 ऐसे पॉइंट थे जहां से सीवरेज सीधे ड्रेन में जाता था, जिनमें से 10 बंद कर दिए गए हैं, अब सिर्फ 7 पॉइंट बचे हैं। उन्होंने कहा कि जल्द ही नया STP बनाया जाएगा ताकि लोगों को इस समस्या से राहत मिले।

गौर करने वाली बात है कि 30 मार्च को भी XEN विजय गर्ग ने दावा किया था कि कोई भी बिना ट्रीटमेंट का पानी ड्रेन-6 में नहीं डाला जाता और ट्रीट किया हुआ पानी देवीलाल पार्क या खेतों में प्रयोग होता है। मगर हालिया घटनाओं ने उनके बयान को झूठा साबित कर दिया है।

NGT का स्पष्ट आदेश है कि बिना ट्रीटमेंट के सीवरेज का पानी किसी भी नदी, नाले या ड्रेन में नहीं जाएगा, लेकिन नगर निगम रोजाना 8-10 MLD अतिरिक्त पानी को ट्रीट किए बिना ड्रेन में छोड़कर पाइपलाइन को बंद कर देता है।

The issue of chemically contaminated water in Sonipat has resurfaced, once again highlighting the negligence of the Municipal Corporation. Despite clear directives from Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and the National Green Tribunal (NGT), untreated toxic water continues to be discharged into Drain-6 from the Rathdhana Road Sewage Treatment Plant (STP).

CM Saini had warned officials during his visit to Sonipat on March 30, stating that strict action would be taken if such violations persisted beyond a week. Yet, even after 20 days, the problem remains unresolved.

The matter came to light again on April 12, when untreated chemical water was once more seen being dumped directly into the drain. This repeated negligence not only violates the CM’s warning but also the NGT’s directive which explicitly prohibits the disposal of untreated sewage into rivers, drains, or water bodies.

In response, Commissioner Harshit Kumar of the Municipal Corporation claimed that the Smart City Development (SMD) team is overseeing the issue, and tenders will soon be released for the construction of a new STP in the city.

Meanwhile, XEN Vijay Garg acknowledged that out of the 17 points in the city where sewage was being discharged directly into drains, 10 have been shut down, and only 7 remain. He assured that a new STP will soon be constructed to resolve this issue permanently.

Interestingly, XEN Garg had previously stated on March 30 that no untreated water was being released into the drain, insisting that treated water was diverted to Devi Lal Park or provided to farmers. However, the recent findings contradict his earlier claim.

The NGT has clearly ordered that untreated sewage must not be released into any natural water sources, yet the Municipal Corporation continues to dump an extra 8–10 MLD (million liters per day) of water directly into the drain daily—allegedly shutting the pipeline immediately after discharging it.
