Rain Brings Relief from Heat, Waterlogging Causes Trouble in Sonipat

After two days of humid heat, rain on Saturday provided much-needed relief to residents. The weather turned pleasant in the afternoon with light to moderate showers, followed by heavy rainfall in the evening. While the drop in temperature brought comfort, waterlogging on roads caused major inconveniences.

Commuters faced difficulties as bikes stalled in waterlogged streets. Over the past three days, the district experienced high humidity with temperatures soaring up to 36°C. Saturday afternoon saw a change in weather, and clouds took over the sky.

The afternoon rain lasted about an hour, bringing the temperature down to around 29°C. People came out of their homes to enjoy the rain. However, the continuous rain has raised concerns for farmers as waterlogging has started affecting Kharif crops like millet and cotton in several areas.

Farmers fear reduced yield due to excess water, especially since the sown area for cotton and millet is already less than last year. Though skies cleared briefly after the afternoon rain, heavy showers resumed by evening.

Areas like the bus stand, Murthal Adda, Subhash Chowk, and near the Gurudwara were heavily waterlogged, disrupting vehicular movement. The region recorded 50 mm of rainfall.
